RBC is hiring a Senior Manager, Corporate Support Financial Control for a full-time finance and accounting position in Toronto, Ontario. This senior role supports the Corporate Support Platform Financial Control team and focuses on maintaining accurate financial reporting, effective controls and appropriate accounting treatment across complex transactions.
The successful candidate will work closely with the Director, Financial Control and several business partners across RBC. The position involves reviewing financial statements, supporting month-end activities, strengthening the control environment and providing accounting guidance when new transactions or reporting issues arise.
About This Financial Control Position
The Senior Manager will help protect the accuracy and completeness of the Corporate Support balance sheet and income statement. This includes overseeing the quality of financial information, reviewing supporting documentation and ensuring that established financial control policies are applied consistently.
The role also provides exposure to a broad range of internal stakeholders. The successful candidate may work with finance teams, accounting policy specialists, regulatory reporting groups and business leaders to ensure transactions are correctly recorded and presented within RBC’s financial reporting systems.
Key Areas of Responsibility
The position combines financial reporting, accounting advisory work and control oversight. The Senior Manager will be expected to identify issues early, communicate clearly with stakeholders and recommend practical improvements when weaknesses or inefficiencies are identified.
Financial Reporting
Help ensure accurate and complete financial and regulatory reporting for assigned Corporate Support groups, including balance sheet and income statement information.
Month-End Close
Support the month-end close process by reviewing journal entries, monitoring balance sheet and profit-and-loss activity and confirming that reporting deadlines are met.
Reconciliations and Attestations
Review reconciliations, source documentation and General Ledger Attestations to determine whether month-end balances are properly supported and approved.
External and Regulatory Reporting
Coordinate with internal teams to support Management’s Discussion and Analysis, financial statements, note disclosures, regulatory reporting and supplemental schedules.
Accounting Advisory
Review new or complex transactions, determine appropriate accounting treatments and consult with RBC’s Accounting Policy Group when additional guidance is required.
Control Improvement
Identify control weaknesses, recommend corrective actions and help implement stronger processes across financial reporting, SOX compliance and end-user applications.
Financial Systems, Policies and Project Work
The Senior Manager will help ensure that new transactions are captured correctly within RBC’s financial reporting systems. This involves confirming that suitable general ledger accounts and financial statement reporting lines are used and that reporting treatment remains consistent with enterprise standards.
The position may also lead special projects assigned by the Director, Financial Control. These initiatives may involve improving documentation, strengthening controls, resolving accounting issues or coordinating changes across several finance and business teams.
Skills That May Help Candidates Succeed
This role is suited to an experienced finance professional who can interpret accounting requirements, challenge incomplete information and communicate recommendations to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
The ability to evaluate reporting processes, identify control gaps and ensure that financial information is supported by appropriate documentation and review.
Strong experience interpreting and applying accounting standards to complex transactions and determining how those transactions should be reported.
The ability to review complex issues, identify the most important facts and develop clear, well-supported conclusions or recommendations.
Strong written and verbal communication skills for coordinating with business partners, finance teams, control functions and senior management.
Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint for financial analysis, reporting, documentation and stakeholder presentations.
Experience, Workplace and Benefits
RBC requires at least five years of professional experience, preferably within the financial services industry, together with a CPA designation or equivalent qualification. Candidates should demonstrate experience applying accounting standards to complex transactions, resolving control issues and working independently with strong initiative.
