Procurement Contract Manager Advisor – Imperial, Edmonton, AB
Location: Edmonton, AB | Company: ExxonMobil
Imperial is hiring a Procurement Contract Manager Advisor for a full-time, on-site position in Edmonton, Alberta. This senior procurement opportunity focuses on managing strategic contracts, leading commercial negotiations and supporting major operational or capital project requirements across Canada.
The successful candidate will develop sourcing strategies, manage important supplier relationships and help Imperial achieve cost-effective commercial outcomes while protecting continuity of supply. The role combines contract management, market intelligence, risk assessment and business partnership within a large Canadian energy organization.
About This Strategic Procurement Position
The Procurement Contract Manager Advisor will oversee a portfolio of contracts that support Imperial’s operating businesses or major capital projects. The position requires a strong understanding of procurement strategy and the ability to manage agreements from initial sourcing and negotiation through amendment, performance review and renewal.
The Advisor will work closely with business leaders, project teams, suppliers and other procurement professionals to understand commercial requirements and develop practical sourcing solutions. Decisions must balance cost, quality, delivery, operational reliability and contractual risk rather than focusing on purchase price alone.
Key Areas of Responsibility
The role covers strategic sourcing, contract development, supplier performance and procurement improvement. The successful candidate will be expected to influence decisions, resolve complex commercial issues and deliver measurable value across assigned categories or projects.
Category Strategy
Develop and execute category and sourcing strategies that reflect Imperial’s business priorities, project requirements, supplier markets and long-term commercial objectives.
Commercial Negotiations
Lead negotiations and contract development for medium- to large-scale agreements involving pricing, scope, performance expectations and risk allocation.
Market and Cost Analysis
Use benchmarking, cost analysis and market intelligence to identify value opportunities and support informed sourcing and contracting decisions.
Supplier Performance
Manage supplier relationships and work with vendors to improve cost, quality, delivery, service and overall contract performance.
Contract Stewardship
Maintain assigned agreements and coordinate amendments, pricing updates, scope changes, renewals and other commercial adjustments throughout the contract lifecycle.
Commercial Risk Management
Identify and mitigate contractual, supply and commercial risks while helping maintain continuity of critical goods and services.
Business Partnership and Procurement Transformation
The Advisor will partner with internal stakeholders to identify commercial challenges and develop procurement solutions that support operational or project outcomes. This requires understanding the underlying business need, evaluating alternative approaches and explaining the financial and risk implications of sourcing decisions.
The position also supports procurement transformation and the adoption of consistent best practices across Imperial. This may include improving contracting processes, introducing new sourcing methods and sharing market insights that strengthen category strategies throughout the organization.
Skills That May Help Candidates Succeed
This role is suited to an experienced procurement professional who can combine commercial judgement with analytical thinking, negotiation and stakeholder leadership. Candidates should be comfortable managing complex agreements and influencing decisions without relying solely on formal authority.
The ability to evaluate business needs, supplier markets and commercial options and convert those findings into effective sourcing strategies.
Strong experience negotiating pricing, scope, performance obligations and contractual protections for significant commercial agreements.
The ability to evaluate cost structures, benchmarks, market conditions and value drivers when comparing suppliers or contract approaches.
Strong communication and relationship-management skills for working with business leaders, project teams, suppliers and cross-functional partners.
The ability to identify supply or contractual risks, resolve complex commercial issues and recommend practical mitigation strategies.
Qualifications and Employee Benefits
Imperial requires a bachelor’s degree from an accredited university and at least five years of experience in procurement, supply chain, strategic sourcing, contract management or a related commercial field. Candidates should demonstrate contract negotiation experience, supplier management capabilities and strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
A professional designation such as SCMP, CPSM or CPM is preferred. Experience in oil and gas, mining, energy or another industrial sector may also be valuable, particularly when combined with exposure to major capital projects, materials management or supply-chain operations. Imperial lists competitive compensation, training, mentorship, relocation assistance where required and access to employee resource groups.
How to Apply
Interested candidates should submit an application through Imperial’s official careers website. Application materials should highlight strategic sourcing, complex contract negotiation, supplier relationship management, cost optimization and any experience supporting major industrial capital projects.
