Leading Technology Operations for Trading Systems
The Director will provide operational leadership across trading technology environments where service reliability, speed and control are essential. The position involves overseeing incident, problem and change management while ensuring that disaster recovery exercises and production readiness activities support established service objectives.
This is both a strategic and hands-on leadership role. The successful candidate will help shape the site reliability engineering roadmap, evaluate new technical solutions and work closely with trading operations, risk and compliance teams to strengthen the stability and efficiency of critical systems.
Key Areas of Responsibility
The position covers operational resilience, technical modernization, cross-functional coordination and the development of a high-performing engineering and operations team.
Operational Reliability
Oversee incident, problem and change management processes to maintain the availability and performance of trading applications.
Monitoring and Observability
Strengthen real-time monitoring, alerting and performance testing capabilities across systems supporting trading activity.
Continuous Improvement
Review production incidents, identify recurring themes and implement preventive measures designed to reduce future trading disruption.
Technology Strategy
Guide the site reliability engineering roadmap, including performance analytics, automation and self-healing capabilities.
Risk and Compliance Alignment
Ensure operational practices support RBC security requirements, technology standards and trading-related compliance obligations.
People Leadership
Build, coach and retain a team of engineers and operations professionals with expertise in complex trading technology environments.
Experience and Technical Background
Candidates must have at least eight years of experience in production operations across multiple technologies and platforms. RBC also requires five or more years of related experience in software engineering disciplines such as site reliability engineering, DevOps or cloud, together with at least five years of people management experience.
The role requires strong knowledge of engineering and SRE practices, supported by a technical degree or equivalent experience. Experience supporting trading systems, financial market infrastructure or other high-availability applications is preferred because the operating environment demands strong judgement under pressure and a clear understanding of reliability risk.
