Location: Toronto, ON | Company: Google
Google is hiring a Data Center Technician to support its technical infrastructure operations in Toronto, Ontario. This hands-on position focuses on installing, diagnosing, repairing and maintaining the servers, networking equipment and physical systems that support Google’s large-scale technology platforms.
Applicants can indicate Toronto or Montreal as their preferred working location during the application process. The role requires practical experience troubleshooting computer and server hardware, working with operating systems and networking protocols, and completing physically demanding technical tasks within a shift-based data centre environment.
Maintaining Google’s Physical Technology Infrastructure
Google’s online products depend on extensive physical infrastructure operating behind the scenes. Data centre technicians help keep this environment dependable by installing new equipment, monitoring technical systems and resolving hardware or infrastructure problems when they occur.
The position combines technical troubleshooting with manual equipment work. A typical assignment may involve diagnosing a failed server component, replacing hardware, configuring network equipment, moving racks or carrying out preventative maintenance. Technicians must follow established procedures while also using judgement to select the appropriate resources and solutions for more complex issues.
Key Areas of Responsibility
The Data Center Technician will contribute to the deployment and ongoing operation of infrastructure across multiple teams. The work requires careful documentation, respect for security procedures and consistent collaboration with other technicians and infrastructure specialists.
Infrastructure Deployment
Install and operate new data centre infrastructure while coordinating activities with other technical and operations teams.
Hardware Troubleshooting
Diagnose issues affecting servers, components, machines and supporting infrastructure by following established technical procedures.
Equipment Repair
Repair or replace failed components and apply suitable solutions based on the condition and operational requirements of the equipment.
Preventative Maintenance
Perform scheduled maintenance intended to reduce hardware failures and preserve the reliability of critical data centre systems.
Data Security
Track physical media and identify unusual data-security concerns, including situations where information may not have been erased correctly.
Equipment Retirement
Disassemble or maintain equipment that has reached the end of its useful life while following Google procedures and security standards.
Technical and Physical Requirements
Applicants must have experience performing component-level repairs and troubleshooting technical equipment. The position also requires experience diagnosing operating systems, computer hardware and server hardware, along with practical knowledge of networking protocols.
The work is physically active. Candidates must be able to lift or move equipment weighing up to 50 pounds, or approximately 23 kilograms, and perform frequent bending, kneeling, climbing, pushing, pulling and lifting over extended periods. Applicants must also be available for non-standard schedules that may include weekends, night shifts, holidays and other shift-based hours.
Skills That May Help Candidates Succeed
Google lists several preferred qualifications that may help candidates handle the technical and operational demands of the role. These qualifications are not presented as mandatory, but they may strengthen an application when combined with relevant hands-on experience.
Experience maintaining and monitoring server systems can help technicians recognize warning signs and respond efficiently to equipment failures.
Familiarity with Linux operating systems may support troubleshooting within the server and cluster environments used by Google’s infrastructure teams.
Understanding routers, switches, hubs, bridges and networking protocols can help technicians diagnose connectivity and infrastructure problems.
The ability to work effectively with other teams is important when infrastructure deployments or incidents involve several technical disciplines.
Experience supporting small technical projects, installations or contingency planning may help candidates contribute beyond routine maintenance tasks.
Security Screening, Compensation and Scheduling
This position requires candidates to obtain or currently hold a valid Reliability Status screening from the Government of Canada. Evidence of the completed screening must be provided directly to Google when employment begins. Candidates must continue meeting the applicable clearance or customer-screening requirements throughout their employment.
Google lists a Canadian base salary range of CAD $88,000 to $90,500. The posting also identifies a 15% bonus target, equity and benefits. Final compensation may depend on relevant skills, experience, education and training. Applicants should also consider the shift-based nature of the position, including the possibility of nights, weekends and holidays.

Candidates can review the complete vacancy and submit an application through the official Google Careers website. Application materials should clearly describe experience repairing hardware, troubleshooting servers and operating systems, working with networking protocols and completing technical work in data centre or similar infrastructure environments.
Applicants will have an opportunity to indicate Toronto or Montreal as their preferred location. They should also be prepared to meet the required Government of Canada Reliability Status screening requirements. Applications are submitted directly to Google, and Joblyz does not participate in the assessment or hiring process.
