About This Financial Crime Leadership Role

The AVP will be responsible for the design, content and ongoing management of TD Bank’s Canadian Sanctions and Anti-Bribery and Corruption program. Working within Financial Crime Risk Management, the successful candidate will help ensure that policies, controls, training and reporting processes remain aligned with Canadian regulatory requirements and the bank’s broader global framework.

This is a senior advisory and oversight position rather than a transactional compliance role. It involves interpreting regulatory developments, assessing potential violations, challenging risk decisions and helping business units understand their responsibilities. The AVP will also contribute to global strategy by working with other financial crime teams and corporate functions across the organization.

Key Areas of Responsibility

The position combines program ownership, regulatory interpretation, control oversight and executive-level communication. Key responsibilities may include the following areas.

Program Governance

Lead the design, maintenance and management of the Canadian sanctions and anti-bribery and corruption program within TD Bank’s second line of defence.

Policy and Regulatory Advice

Provide subject matter expertise on sanctions and anti-bribery laws, interpret policy requirements and communicate material regulatory changes to relevant stakeholders.

Risk Assessment

Support enterprise risk assessments, review risk ratings and action plans, and help maintain methodologies used to evaluate sanctions and corruption exposure.

Control Oversight

Assess whether appropriate controls are in place to screen customers, third parties and transactions against applicable sanctions lists and regulatory requirements.

Training and Guidance

Oversee the development of specialized training content and deliver guidance to business partners dealing with sanctions or anti-bribery and corruption concerns.

Escalation and Reporting

Escalate significant risk matters and provide information to senior financial crime leaders, governance committees, management teams and the Board when required.

Experience and Qualifications Required

TD Bank requires an undergraduate degree and at least 10 years of combined experience in sanctions, anti-bribery and corruption, and financial crime risk management. Relevant experience may have been gained in the private sector, government, a regulatory agency or through a combination of these environments.

Candidates should have significant experience managing sanctions and anti-bribery compliance risks, along with a thorough understanding of the laws and regulatory expectations governing these areas. The role also requires evidence of successful collaboration across multiple disciplines and the ability to communicate effectively with executive management, control functions and operational business teams.

Hybrid Work, Compensation and Professional Development

This Toronto-based position follows a hybrid working arrangement and has a stated annual salary range of $155,000 to $215,000 CAD.
