About the Global Core Trade Finance Role
The Vice President will report to the Managing Director and Head of Global Core Trade Finance. The position is responsible for helping clients manage payment risk, facilitate international trade, and address working capital requirements through traditional trade finance products such as standby letters of credit, bank guarantees, import letters of credit, export letters of credit, and documentary collections.
The role covers the complete transaction lifecycle, from identifying a potential opportunity and preparing a client proposal through credit approval, documentation, closing, and ongoing portfolio management. Candidates will need to combine technical product expertise with commercial judgment, disciplined origination, client advocacy, and a detailed understanding of credit and financial risk.
Key Areas of Responsibility
The position combines deal origination, transaction structuring, relationship management, portfolio oversight, and collaboration across TD Securities and its international business network.
Deal Origination
Identify new trade finance opportunities within the assigned portfolio, prospect for potential clients, and maintain an active pipeline of transactions and mandates.
Transaction Structuring
Develop trade finance structures, prepare or oversee term sheets and presentations, coordinate pricing decisions, and obtain the required credit support.
Client Relationship Management
Act as a trusted trade finance advisor and primary contact for clients while coordinating internal resources to address product, credit, and execution needs.
Deal Execution
Guide transactions through due diligence, risk assessment, credit approval, documentation, negotiation, closing, and funding in partnership with internal teams.
Portfolio Oversight
Monitor the assigned portfolio with attention to profitability, compliance, operational requirements, internal controls, credit risk, and ongoing account maintenance.
Cross-Functional Leadership
Collaborate with corporate banking, global markets, credit, legal, product, and regional teams while guiding Analysts and Associates involved in client coverage.
Professional Experience and Education
TD Securities is seeking candidates with approximately 10 to 15 years of relevant experience in trade finance or corporate and commercial lending within a major financial institution. This background should include at least five to seven years as a senior or lead contributor with a demonstrated record of originating and completing financial transactions.
Candidates must have practical expertise in traditional trade finance products, including standby letters of credit, bank guarantees, and documentary letters of credit. Experience structuring complex transactions, negotiating legal or lending documentation, managing relationships with large corporations and financial institutions, and applying sound credit judgment is also required. An MBA, CFA designation, or equivalent experience in finance, accounting, legal services, or a related field is requested.

Work Environment, Travel and Compensation
This is an on-site, full-time role based in Toronto with a standard schedule of 37.5 hours per week. The position involves working with colleagues and clients across locations including Toronto, Montréal, Vancouver, London, Singapore, and the United States. Travel within North America is required to support client relationships, prospecting, presentations, and transaction development.
TD lists an annual base salary range of $150,000 to $160,000 CAD. The role is also eligible for discretionary variable compensation based on individual and business performance.
