Air Canada is hiring a Maintenance Operations Controller in Toronto, Ontario. This aviation maintenance role is responsible for the technical dispatch of Air Canada aircraft and the coordination of day-of-flight maintenance activities while ensuring compliance with the airline’s Maintenance Control Manual and applicable airworthiness standards.
The successful candidate will work with Air Canada maintenance teams, contracted maintenance repair organizations and flight crews to maximize aircraft serviceability, support on-time performance and resolve technical issues affecting daily flight operations.
About This Maintenance Operations Controller Role
Reporting to the Shift Manager, the Maintenance Operations Controller manages technical dispatch activities for Air Canada and customer aircraft. The position serves as a central point of contact for Line Maintenance operations and provides technical direction during normal operations, irregular operations and emergency situations.
The role requires strong aircraft maintenance knowledge, sound judgement and the ability to make operational decisions in a fast-paced environment. Controllers must also communicate aircraft restrictions and fleet status to Flight Dispatch, Systems Operations Control and maintenance leadership.
Key Areas of Responsibility
The position combines technical dispatch, maintenance coordination and real-time operational support. The Maintenance Operations Controller helps ensure aircraft remain safe, serviceable and available for scheduled operations.
Technical Dispatch
Manage the technical dispatch of Air Canada and customer aircraft in accordance with applicable airworthiness standards and maintenance requirements.
Maintenance Coordination
Coordinate day-of-flight maintenance activities at line stations and provide technical assistance for the rectification of aircraft defects.
Technical Troubleshooting
Provide troubleshooting guidance and technical instructions to maintenance teams, including support for recurring aircraft defects.
Line Maintenance Support
Serve as a focal point for Line Maintenance activity around the clock, including during irregular operations and emergency situations.
MEL Control
Maintain control of Minimum Equipment List items affecting the fleet and help ensure applicable operational and maintenance requirements are followed.
Fleet Status Communication
Keep the Shift Manager and Senior Maintenance Controllers informed about aircraft status and communicate operational restrictions to Flight Dispatch and Systems Operations Control.
Supporting Air Canada Flight Operations
The Maintenance Operations Controller works directly at the intersection of aircraft maintenance and daily airline operations. When technical problems arise, the controller helps determine the maintenance actions required and coordinates with the appropriate teams to support safe aircraft operation.
The role also involves guiding Air Canada personnel, contracted maintenance repair organizations and flight crews to ensure maintenance requirements are followed while supporting aircraft utilization and on-time performance. Controllers must remain current with the technical and regulatory training required for the position.

Qualifications and Employment Requirements
Air Canada requires candidates to possess an AME M2 or E licence, or equivalent. Applicants should have between one and three years of Maintenance Operations Control experience with ACA or Company Certification Authority and demonstrate knowledge of the Maintenance Control Manual, Transport Canada and FAA requirements.
Shift work is required for this position, and candidates must be willing to work extended hours when necessary. Applicants should also demonstrate teamwork, leadership, analytical and problem-solving skills, dependable attendance and proficiency with common computer applications including Word, Excel, email and Windows.
