Costco is hiring a Pharmacy Student in Kelowna, BC to support pharmacy services under the direct supervision of a pharmacist. This role provides hands-on experience with prescription processing, patient support, and pharmacy operations while maintaining strong confidentiality and safety standards.
ABOUT THE JOB
As a Pharmacy Student at Costco, you will assist with drug distribution tasks such as prescription order entry, packaging, and supporting dispensing activities under pharmacist supervision. You will help answer phone calls, assist patients at the counter, and support inventory and workflow in the pharmacy. Depending on competency level and provincial regulations, you may also help provide limited counselling and education on prescription and over-the-counter products, and support initiatives like medication reviews and Health Promotion clinics.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Answer and triage phone calls and direct members to the appropriate pharmacy service.
- Collect patient information and input prescription details into the pharmacy system accurately under pharmacist supervision.
- Assist with prescription preparation by retrieving stock, counting, packaging, and labeling medications as directed.
- Follow pharmacy safety and security procedures and maintain strict patient confidentiality at all times.
- Alert the pharmacist when needed, including drug interaction concerns or patient issues requiring review.
- Support compliance with provincial regulations related to the pharmacy student role.
- Assist patients at the counter, retrieve prescriptions, and process register transactions according to procedures.
- Communicate with patients regarding OTC products and questions under pharmacist supervision and refer to the pharmacist when appropriate.
- Depending on competency and provincial regulation, provide limited counselling and education under the pharmacist’s direction.
- Identify and help recruit patients for medication review programs and support pharmacists during reviews.
- Stock and organize pharmacy supplies and OTC merchandise and help keep the pharmacy clean and well organized.
- Support planning and execution of Costco Pharmacy Health Promotion clinics where assigned.
- Assist in other areas as necessary under the direction of the pharmacist.
