Goldman Sachs is hiring an Associate for its Global Banking & Markets Operations Natural Gas Scheduling team in Calgary, Alberta. This role focuses on coordinating the physical transportation of natural gas across North America while supporting producers, power plants, industrial customers and Goldman Sachs trading and sales teams.
The successful candidate will work in a fast-paced trading environment, develop expertise in natural gas pipeline and storage infrastructure and help ensure physical commodity flows are accurate, timely and cost-effective.
About This Natural Gas Scheduling Role
The Natural Gas Scheduling Associate will join Goldman Sachs’ Gas & Power Logistics team within Global Banking & Markets Operations. The team manages the operational lifecycle of physical natural gas transactions and coordinates transportation across pipelines and storage systems throughout North America.
In addition to daily scheduling responsibilities, the team manages physical assets and inventory, supports access to new areas of the natural gas market and provides observations on physical flows that may inform current and future commercial opportunities.
Key Areas of Responsibility
The role combines physical commodity logistics, market analysis, trade support and operational coordination across Goldman Sachs and external market participants.
Natural Gas Scheduling
Work closely with trading and sales teams to optimize and schedule the movement of natural gas across North American pipeline and storage networks.
Market Infrastructure
Develop detailed knowledge of natural gas pipelines, storage facilities and the operational requirements involved in physical commodity delivery.
Market Data & Analysis
Provide trading and sales teams with timely market data, physical flow observations and analysis that can support commercial decision-making.
Counterparty Coordination
Communicate with external counterparties and clients to coordinate contract information and help ensure accurate execution of physical natural gas transactions.
Cross-Functional Support
Collaborate with Settlements, Documentation, Middle Office, Legal, Compliance, Credit, Technology, Tax, Insurance and Regulatory Reporting teams.
Process Improvement
Contribute ideas involving trade opportunities, system enhancements, contract language and improvements to team procedures and operational processes.
Natural Gas Logistics and Trading Operations
Members of the natural gas logistics team are active participants in the physical energy marketplace. Accurate scheduling and timely submission of information to pipeline and market operators are essential to ensuring transactions are completed correctly.
The team works alongside trading and sales while also managing physical assets and inventory. Candidates should therefore be comfortable working under time-sensitive market conditions and coordinating multiple priorities at the same time.
Who We’re Looking For
This opportunity may suit a business or commerce graduate with strong analytical skills, attention to detail and the ability to operate effectively in a demanding trading-floor environment.
Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Commerce or Business.
Strong technical and analytical capabilities for understanding market data, logistics requirements and physical commodity flows.
Strong attention to detail with the ability to prioritize work, manage competing responsibilities and meet high-pressure deadlines.
Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to explain complex issues clearly to internal and external stakeholders.
A proactive and self-starting approach with willingness to take responsibility for projects and contribute to evolving business processes.
Availability
This Associate position is based in Calgary, Alberta. Candidates must be available to work every fourth weekend and occasional holidays as required by the natural gas scheduling operation.
