RBC is hiring a Senior Technical Architect in Toronto, Ontario, for a full-time position focused on designing secure, scalable, and AI-driven enterprise solutions within the bank’s Personal and Commercial Banking platform.
This senior architecture role supports RBC’s digital transformation by shaping enterprise-grade systems across artificial intelligence, cloud platforms, OpenShift, Kubernetes, virtual machines, data governance, and internal banking infrastructure. The successful candidate will work across business, security, infrastructure, and development teams while guiding complex solutions through RBC’s architecture governance process.
About the Senior Technical Architect Role
The Senior Technical Architect will lead end-to-end solution design for strategic technology initiatives and ensure that each architecture aligns with RBC’s enterprise standards, security requirements, regulatory obligations, and long-term technology strategy.
A major focus of the position is the design of AI-native systems, including autonomous agents, multi-agent frameworks, retrieval-augmented generation pipelines, machine learning workflows, and large language model platforms. The role also involves establishing responsible AI controls such as governance, explainability, fairness, auditability, and risk mitigation.

Enterprise Solution Design
Lead the architecture of complex technology initiatives from initial requirements through deployment while maintaining alignment with RBC standards and strategic priorities.

Design AI systems using large language models, retrieval-augmented generation, autonomous agents, and multi-agent orchestration frameworks.
Cloud and Platform Integration
Integrate solutions across OpenShift, Kubernetes, cloud platforms, Linux environments, virtual machines, enterprise applications, and APIs.
AI Governance
Establish guardrails, audit trails, security controls, privacy standards, and governance frameworks for responsible AI adoption in a regulated environment.
Architecture Review
Prepare architecture materials, present recommendations to review boards, and explain technical decisions to executives, business leaders, and engineering teams.
Technical Mentorship
Guide architects and developers on enterprise standards, emerging technologies, platform patterns, and secure solution design practices.
Experience and Technical Requirements
Applicants must have at least 10 years of experience in enterprise architecture or solution architecture, including responsibility for large-scale systems within complex organizations. Experience in financial services may be beneficial due to the regulatory and security requirements of the role.
Candidates should have strong hands-on knowledge of OpenShift Container Platform, Kubernetes, Azure, AWS, Google Cloud, Linux, virtual machine infrastructure, enterprise application integration, and APIs. The role also requires experience designing AI systems with technologies such as LLMs, RAG, MCP, and agent orchestration tools including LangGraph, CrewAI, AutoGen, or comparable frameworks.

Workplace and Preferred Qualifications
This regular full-time salaried position is based at RBC WaterPark Place, 88 Queens Quay West in Toronto. The standard work schedule is 37.5 hours per week within the Personal and Commercial Banking platform.
Experience in payments, cards, fraud, digital banking, blockchain, digital assets, tokenization, digital identity, or agentic commerce may strengthen a candidate’s application. Certifications such as TOGAF, CISSP, cloud architecture, Kubernetes, Red Hat OpenShift, or AI-related credentials may also be beneficial.
