Optical Student – Costco Wholesale, Ottawa, ON

Costco Wholesale is looking for an Optical Student to join our team at the Ottawa warehouse located at 1405 Blair Place. This role is an excellent opportunity for students registered with a provincial college to gain hands-on experience in a busy optical department while providing exceptional member service.

As an Optical Student, you’ll assist with frame selection, process orders, fit eyeglasses under supervision, and ensure the department runs smoothly.

About the Job

This position focuses on assisting licensed opticians while learning about the day-to-day operations of a Costco Optical department. You will provide customer support, product knowledge, and maintain department standards.

Your role will also involve handling payments, stocking merchandise, and supporting members with their optical needs.

Key Responsibilities for the Optical Student

You will engage with members, assist with eyewear selections, and ensure the optical department is clean, stocked, and operating efficiently.

• Assist members in choosing eyeglass frames and lens options, providing courteous service.
• Ring up orders and over-the-counter sales, handle payments, and process transactions.
• Fit and adjust eyeglasses under licensed supervision, following provincial regulations.
• Order equipment and supplies, maintaining accurate records and following safety protocols.
• Stock merchandise and supplies, ensuring proper storage and display standards.
• Clean the department, operate the trash compactor and cardboard bailer.

Minimum Qualifications for the Optical Student

Applicants must meet the educational and licensing requirements to participate in this training opportunity.

• Education/Training: High School Diploma or GED preferred.
• Licenses/Certifications: Current provincial license required and registered in an applicable college.
• Experience: No prior experience required.

Preferred Qualifications for the Optical Student

While not required, these additional skills can contribute to your success in this role.

• Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
• Knowledge of optical equipment and product handling.
• For Quebec positions, French communication (oral and written) is required.
