Costco is hiring a Licensed Optician in Kelowna, BC to support members with eyewear selection, order processing, and contact lens services. This role combines technical optical work with excellent member service in a busy, professional optical department.
ABOUT THE JOB
As an Optician at Costco, you will assist members in selecting and ordering eyewear including frames, lenses, and contact lenses. You’ll take accurate measurements, process prescriptions and orders, and help fit and adjust eyewear for comfort and accuracy. The role may include contact lens-related support, maintaining trial lens inventory, ensuring department standards are met, and overseeing students/apprentices when required. You will also help keep the department clean, organized, and compliant with provincial licensing requirements.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist members in selecting frames, lenses, sunglasses, and contact lens options appropriate to their prescription.
- Support members with booking eye care appointments where applicable.
- Measure pupillary distance (PD) accurately using approved tools and techniques.
- Determine multi-focal placement and bifocal heights as required.
- Assess member needs using appropriate in-department tools and assist with fitting of contact lenses when applicable.
- Process optical orders and over-the-counter transactions, including payments and required paperwork.
- Check completed eyewear against prescriptions prior to dispensing and adjust eyeglasses using frame warmers and manual techniques.
- Order optical equipment, merchandise, and supplies; manage vendor special orders and related documentation.
- Stock and organize merchandise and supplies following department procedures and merchandising standards.
- Maintain appropriate levels of contact lens trials and ensure trial inventory is organized.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and professional department environment, including cleaning displays and merchandise.
- Oversee apprentices/students as required for certification or qualification and support training where applicable.
- Maintain provincial licensing requirements and ensure registration remains in good standing.
