Costco is hiring a Maintenance Assistant in Kelowna, BC to support janitorial services and general upkeep for the Optical Lab and facility areas. This role helps maintain clean, safe workspaces while following company standards and safety procedures.
ABOUT THE JOB
As a Maintenance Assistant at Costco, you will perform daily cleaning and upkeep tasks across the Optical Lab and related facility areas. Responsibilities include cleaning floors and common areas, removing trash, operating cardboard and trash compactors, responding to spills, and helping with grounds maintenance. You may also assist with light maintenance tasks such as changing bulbs, washing windows, and supporting seasonal needs like snow and ice removal. This position requires attention to detail, safe work habits, and the ability to follow established procedures.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Review the daily schedule and complete routine cleaning and maintenance tasks.
- Clean floors in offices, break rooms, restrooms, production areas, and other facility spaces; change scrubber water as needed to reduce dust.
- Empty trash from designated areas and operate cardboard and trash compactors in accordance with safety procedures.
- Follow location procedures and maintain safety and security standards while performing duties.
- Respond quickly to clean up spills and help keep work areas safe.
- Maintain facility fixtures and perform tasks such as changing light bulbs, washing windows, and cleaning upper walls/ceilings.
- Vacuum rafters periodically and maintain cleanliness in hard-to-reach areas as required.
- Assist with grounds maintenance including blowing leaves, picking up litter, and conducting roof checks.
- Support seasonal tasks such as snow and ice removal and assist with painting or basic floor repairs when required.
- Monitor cleaning supplies, restock as needed, and help place received items in the appropriate department.
- Provide courteous service to members, employees, and suppliers.
- Use and operate internal maintenance systems and support inventory and purchasing tasks when required.
- Assist in other areas of the lab as needed.
