Loss Prevention Clerk – Costco Wholesale, Ottawa, ON

Costco Wholesale is seeking a Loss Prevention Clerk to join our team at the Ottawa warehouse, located at 1849 Merivale Road. This full-time role is critical to safeguarding company assets, ensuring safety, and minimizing theft or fraud.

As a Loss Prevention Clerk, you’ll be responsible for investigating theft, reporting security risks, and working closely with law enforcement when needed.

About the Job

This role focuses on protecting the warehouse from both internal and external theft. You will actively monitor the premises, investigate suspicious activity, and help maintain a safe environment for members and employees.

You’ll also be responsible for generating reports, preserving evidence, and testifying in court if necessary.

Key Responsibilities for the Loss Prevention Clerk

Your tasks will center on preventing loss, maintaining security, and handling investigations, contributing directly to Costco’s safe operations.

• Monitor warehouse and perimeter for safety and security risks, walking up to 8 hours daily.
• Detect, observe, and apprehend shoplifters, detaining and interviewing suspects as warranted.
• Report potential internal theft situations and assist with investigations.
• Identify shrink reduction opportunities and suggest improvements to management.
• Prepare reports and maintain records and evidence for potential legal cases.
• Communicate with local law enforcement and testify in court if necessary.
• Educate and coach warehouse staff on Loss Prevention policies and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications for the Loss Prevention Clerk

Ideal candidates should meet the following educational and licensing requirements to ensure success in the role.

• Education/Training: High School Diploma or GED preferred.
• Licenses/Certifications: Valid Loss Prevention License required (as per provincial law).
• Experience: Preference for candidates with Loss Prevention experience and knowledge of the Criminal Code of Canada.
