Air Canada is hiring a Manager, Maintenance Control for a full-time aviation maintenance leadership position in Toronto, Ontario. This role oversees the technical dispatch of Air Canada, Air Canada Rouge, Air Canada Jetz and Air Canada Cargo aircraft while ensuring compliance with applicable airworthiness standards and maintenance control requirements.
The successful candidate will lead Maintenance Operation Controllers and Cabin Maintenance Controllers, coordinate aircraft recovery and repair decisions and support fleet serviceability, safety and operational performance across the airline’s network.
About This Maintenance Control Leadership Role
The Manager, Maintenance Control reports to the Director, Maintenance Operations Control and is responsible for guiding technical dispatch activity in accordance with CAR 706 and Air Canada’s Maintenance Control Manual. The role involves close coordination with flight crews, line maintenance teams, contracted maintenance providers and operational control groups.
This position requires sound technical judgement because the manager may need to make or challenge decisions involving aircraft serviceability, delays, defects, AOG events and flight permits. The successful candidate will also help establish processes, train employees and maintain consistent maintenance control standards across the team.
Key Areas of Responsibility
The role combines technical operations, people leadership and fleet recovery coordination. The Manager will be expected to balance safety, regulatory compliance, aircraft availability and operational priorities in a fast-moving airline environment.
Technical Dispatch Oversight
Oversee the technical dispatch of aircraft and ensure maintenance decisions are made in accordance with approved instructions, regulatory requirements and Air Canada procedures.
Fleet Status Coordination
Act as a primary Maintenance Control contact within the Operations Center and communicate aircraft status, serviceability risks and repair priorities to operational stakeholders.
Defect and Repair Management
Monitor aircraft defects, establish repair plans and prioritize rectification work for unserviceable aircraft and defects with significant operational impact.
AOG Recovery
Coordinate complex aircraft-on-ground recovery activity, assemble required technical expertise and support services and help return aircraft to service safely and efficiently.
MEL and Flight Permit Support
Represent maintenance operations during MEL reviews, manage MEL extensions and initiate flight permit processes when required.
Team Leadership
Manage Maintenance Operation Controllers and Cabin Maintenance Controllers and ensure team members are properly trained for their assigned responsibilities.
Aircraft Recovery and Operational Decision-Making
The Manager will help coordinate repair activity for aircraft that are delayed, unserviceable or operating away from major maintenance bases. This may involve working with SOC, planning, transportation, purchasing, contracted providers and AOG support teams to identify the fastest safe path back to service.
The role also requires participation in operational calls and daily reviews of overnight maintenance issues. The manager may act on behalf of the Person Responsible for Maintenance during off hours when an aircraft must be removed from service because safety has been compromised.
Skills That May Help Candidates Succeed
This opportunity is suited to an experienced aviation maintenance leader who can make sound technical decisions, communicate clearly under pressure and provide direction across several operational teams.
Strong knowledge of aircraft maintenance, line operations, technical dispatch and the regulatory requirements governing commercial airline maintenance.
The ability to assess aircraft disruptions, defects and operational risks and determine practical maintenance actions under time pressure.
Experience directing technical teams, developing employees and providing clear guidance during routine and high-complexity maintenance events.
Familiarity with maintenance control requirements and regulatory agencies such as Transport Canada and the FAA.
Strong written and verbal communication, analytical thinking and the ability to coordinate effectively with internal and external operational partners.
Qualifications and Employment Requirements
Air Canada requires a valid AME M2 or E licence, or equivalent, with at least one active endorsement on an aircraft type in the Air Canada fleet. Candidates should also have at least seven years of experience in an airline, Maintenance Operations Control or Line Maintenance leadership role.
